This is Beth. Documenting the shag.

P.P.S. Brace yourselves.

I’m calling this a style.  I think this is what they call a bob. Well, maybe a layered bob.

I won’t actually style my hair which is why it’s kind of feathery.

Yes, after 5 months I’m pretty sure I have a style again.

This is Beth. And it’s May.

My shag is a lighter brown than last month’s “Brunette.”

2. Music (what was playing at the salon during the doing of the do)—Note: music plays all the time at Bang, I don’t get to pick do-appropriate songs. I do get to pick the title song for the blog post which I did days ago. Among the diverse assortment of songs that played during the doing of the shag – my girl Joan singing I Love Rock n’ Roll.

3. Drink (what I sipped at the salon during the doing of the do)—Note: I do get to choose the do-appropriate drink. This time, rum and coke. Easy to make, easy to drink. Enjoyed with friends (and a crap ton of foils):

They also brought pizza to share!

4. The Theory—The shag gets to be kinda short and kinda long at the same time (without being a mullet). Variations have come and gone for decades. The Joan Jett version is rockin’ tough. Edgy.

5. Reactions—Jill, Liz and Michelle said they like it. Impressed with Monica’s artistry in particular, I think they agree I may have to work on my edginess.

P.S. Title song: Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, I Love Rock n’ Roll

This is Beth. Continuing to hope that this little hair/blog project gives a little needed distraction from seriousness and sadness in the world.

In April, Liz went big, I went home – no dramatic change and embracing the most common of hair colors ended up fairly… boring. I don’t think I confirmed a brunette stereotype, however. I think we just didn’t see quite enough sunny days in April.

We’re looking forward to May:

May it bring good news, fun and lots more sunshine.

Seasonal produce might have to be the theme for 2014.

This is Beth. At the begining of April I posted the five elements of my “brunette” do, including several sweet-looking brown-haired celebrity inspirations – trying to capture the “girl next door” element of the streotype. Here’s the same set of celeb pics paired with steamy, sultry poses for contrast:

Michelle here at month four, a third of the way through this year of growth.  This month comments ranged from “your hair got so long” to “I thought your hair would be a lot longer.”  So, let’s do a check-in.  Here is what I looked like in January.  Please note the beautiful weather…

Here’s what I look like now in snowy cold April.  That’s some pretty serious hair growth.

Brad is maintaining. He’s reluctant to go further but it’s unlikely he’ll return to the super short hair of 2012 and before.  Look at those lovely locks.

It’s still not all rosy.  I look kind of crazy in the morning.

And sometimes when others say it looks great, I do things like this: hide my hair under my scarf and say “I look like a babka.”  And my friends correct me, “No, a babushka.”

Anyway, I’m having fun and I’m sticking it out. My hairstylist Lynette went back to bald:

Is this me in January 2014?

This is Beth. As I sat getting the April Brunette do done, I came across this:

Many dos of Keira Knightley

The many dos of Keira Knightley – a perfect example of the kind of celebrity lock changing that inspired this little hair blog project.

This is Beth. Having a bad hair day. Looking forward to good hair days.

April! For the fourth month of the project, I decided to emulate some of the ambitious, overachieving blondes that I admire:

Am I pulling it off?

Reactions so far:

“Oh my god!”

“Jesus Christ”

“Where’s Liz?….OH!”

“Parece que es de California” (She looks like she’s from California.)
